Latitude 50 33' N Longitude 4 56' W (Admiralty Charts 1168/SC 5603.5) is a small commercial port which is situated 1.5 miles from the sea within the estuary of the River Camel. The harbour is capable of handling vessels up to 2000 gross tons. The port only handles cargo in bulk i.e. sand, roadstone etc. Padstow has a thriving fleet of inshore fishing vessel fishing mainly for lobsters and crabs. The fishing vessels and leisure craft are now the main users of the harbour. The inner harbour is serviced by a tidal gate, which is open approximately, two hours either side of high water.. A minimum of three metres is maintained at all times. The town of Padstow with its population of approximately 3800 has built up around the harbour. During 1999, the harbour handled around 100,000 tonnes of sand dredged from the estuary and used mainly for agricultural purposes.

 

 




The seaward limits are bounded by a line joining Stepper Point, Gulland Rock, Newland, and Pentire Point as shown on the chart.


Is compulsory for all vessels over 30 metres and those vessels over 20 metres with a draft in excess of 3.5 metres. The pilot boards three cables E of Stepper Point, or in adverse weather as near to the fairway buoy off Trebetherick Point.

By arrangement with the Harbour Master. The outer Basin dries to firm mud or sand bottom. Maximum size vessel is governed by draft. Tidal range 7.7m MHWS and 5.5m MHWN. ETA 12 hours in advance.


The harbour offers the very best of facilities for the visiting mariner. Within the Red brick Building on the north side of the harbour there are male and female showers, toilets and a laundry. The new Harbour Office was built early in 2000 and on the south end are further showers, toilets and laundry. Access is by a keypad, the number will be given to you on arrival. Fresh water and electricity is available at all berths within the inner harbour. Electricity cards (£1 or £5) can be obtained at the Harbour Office. Calor Gas and Camping Gas can be obtained from the Harbour Office. Diesel can be delivered direct to vessels from the fuel berth on the South Pier. Should you require diesel in cans please place outside the Harbour Office. These are filled twice daily at 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs. Our staff will also make a petrol run to the local garage at those times.
A two-day weather forecast is posted in the office window each morning. A five-day planning forecast can be obtained on request.
